Fix Zoom camera not working

One of the common problems users do have on Zoom is their cameras not working, and you can fix it with a few clicks. If you joined a Zoom session and people can’t see you or you can’t see yourself, something might either be wrong with your phone’s camera or the Zoom app itself. Here are some things you can do:

First, ensure Zoom has permission to use your camera. People won’t see you on Zoom if you’ve disabled the camera permission for the app on your phone. You need to re-enable the permission with the steps below.

  • Open the app drawer on your Android phone and locate the Zoom
  • Long-press its icon, then tap App info (or the ‘i’ button)
  • Tap Permissions, then ensure “Camera” is turned on.

Next, you need to ensure other apps are not using the camera. For instance, if you’re on a WhatsApp video call already, your phone would prioritize WhatsApp and disallow Zoom from tapping into the camera. To fix that, all you need is to close all apps using the camera in the background. Or better still, restart your phone before you join the Zoom call again.

Finally, remember to toggle on the “Start Video” button so others can see you. Zoom respect your privacy and you may choose not to show your face during a Zoom call. However, if people can’t see you, kindly join the call with a video. The button to do so is present in the lower-right corner of the Zoom call interface.

Resolve Zoom audio not working

If people complain of not hearing you during a Zoom call, that means you need to troubleshoot the audio as well.

Start by confirming that you’re not muted. If you’re not the one hosting the call, you may ask the host to unmute you. And after that, you should ensure you’ve not muted yourself. You’ll find the mute button below the call screen.

Fix Zoom microphone not working by checking your phone’s permission. Just like the camera, you need to permit Zoom to use your phone’s microphone before others can hear you. Here’s how:

  • Open the app drawer on your Android phone and locate the Zoom
  • Long-press its icon, then tap App info (or the ‘i’ button)
  • Tap Permissions, then ensure “Microphone” is turned on.

Meanwhile, also ensure other apps, such as Sound Recorder, are not working in the background.

More so, if your microphone is working well but you cannot hear other people’s voices, ensure your phone’s volume is not silent. Turn up the volume using the Volume up button on your device.

Resolve Zoom share screen not working

Screen sharing on Zoom allows you to share what’s showing on your phone screen with the conference members. If that’s not working for you, however, there are a couple of fixes to try.

First, confirm the host allows you to share your screen. If you’re not the one hosting the conference, then you cannot share your screen without the host’s approval. So, if you need to use screen share, ensure the host has enabled “Screen sharing for participants.”

If, after trying to share your screen, you received an error message saying “Host disabled participant screen sharing”, that means only the host can share his/her screen now.

To fix that, try notifying the host via the Chat room or anywhere to permit you.

And if you’re the host, you can enable Screen Share on the Zoom mobile app for all participants with the steps below:

  • Tap the More button in the lower right corner.
  • Select Meeting Settings.
  • Under Allow Participants to, turn on Share Screen.

Besides enabling Screen Share for everyone, there are other ways to fix Zoom Screen Share not working. These include confirming you have a fast & stable internet connection, updating the Zoom app, updating your phone software, restarting the Zoom app, and more.

Also, if you’re having a poor network problem, we recommend you switch to audio calling before trying to share your screen. That’d help redirect the little bandwidth to the screen share alone.

How to fix Zoom not working

Zoom might be the most popular video conferencing app out there. But like any other app/platform, it’s far from being perfect. Your Zoom app may malfunction at the most unrealistic time, but you can fix it easily in most cases.

In addition to the several popular Zoom problems addressed above, here are other tips you can try when Zoom is not working on your device.

1. Restart your phone

If it’s just a temporary system glitch, then restarting your phone should be the easiest way to fix it. Just hold down your phone’s power button for about 10 seconds. That should restart your phone. Otherwise, do it the normal way.

2. Erase Zoom app’s cache and data

Next, the stored cache and data of the Zoom app may hinder it from working smoothly in some cases. To fix that, we recommend you reset the app by clearing its cache and data.

Here’s how to do it on Android:

  • Open the app drawer on your phone and locate the Zoom
  • Long-press its icon, then tap App info (or the ‘i’ button)
  • Tap Storage (& Cache)
  • Click on Clear cache, then tap Clear data as well to reset the Zoom app.

Try re-launching Zoom to see if the issue has been fixed.

3. Update the app and your phone

Another reliable method to fix app-related issues is by updating the app and your device. Doing so brings to your device and the app the latest improvements, bug fixes, as well as features.

To update Zoom:

  • Launch the Play Store on your phone.
  • Search for Zoom and click the app.
  • If you see an Update button on the page, tap it to get the latest version. Otherwise, there’s no need to update.

 To update your device:

  • Launch the Settings app
  • Click on System
  • Select System Update or Software Update.
  • Tap Check for updates. If an update is available, download it and restart your device.

Updating your phone and the Zoom app may fix the issue sometimes. But if that didn’t work, try another solution below.

4. Enable necessary permissions

Another way to fix Zoom not working on your phone is to ensure you enable all required permission. As said earlier, people won’t hear you if you’ve denied Zoom permission to use your phone’s microphone. The same applies to zoom camera not working and others.

Here’s how to grant zoom all necessary permission on Android

  • Locate Zoom in your app drawer.
  • Long-press its icon, then tap App info (or the ‘i’ button)
  • Tap Permissions
  • Finally, ensure all necessary permissions are turned on.

5. Reinstall Zoom

If nothing works, you may need to start afresh by reinstalling Zoom on your phone. By doing that, your device may rectify the issue you’re battling with on Zoom.

  • Visit the Play Store and search for
  • Tap the app on the list and hit the Uninstall
  • Wait for a few seconds, then tap the Install button to download the app again.

Once installed, set up your Zoom profile, grant necessary permissions, and continue your virtual conference in peace.
