DESIGN & HARDWARE
Looking at the rear of both devices, you'll see a similar camera module with the vertical arrangement of the quad-rear cameras. Also, a centralized fingerprint sensor sits on the rear of both devices, serving as a secondary security method.
Both Infinix Hot 9 and TECNO SPARK 5 Pro also look alike when you flip them to the front side. You get a decent 6.6" HD+ punch-hole display with an IPS LCD panel. The ear speaker and other sensors - including proximity and light sensor - sits at the topmost part of the display. One significant difference between both devices is that the TECNO feature a dual front flash, while you get a single front flash on the Infinix. Although you won't notice the front flash until you fire them up, it's a nifty feature that makes a point for the TECNO SPARK 5 Pro, at least if you take pictures at night.
PERFORMANCE & SOFTWARE
Not just the design and display, the two devices go head-to-head in terms of performance, and the differences you notice could be prior to software tweaking and little hardware differences. On paper, both devices are powered by a Helio A25 processor by MediaTek. Fortunately, both have improved over their predecessors by now having an Octa-Core CPU capped at 2.0GHz, instead of a Quad-Core CPU. You should see the improvements if you're coming from the predecessor of any of the devices (TECNO SPARK 4 or Infinix Hot 8...)
You also enjoy Android 10 software and all it has to offer on both devices. Although both brands (Infinix and TECNO) has different custom Android skin, you get a similar software experience regardless. The Infinix Hot 9 comes with XOS 6.0 based on Android 10, while the TECNO SPARK 5 Pro comes with HiOS 6.0, on the other hand.
Where the Infinix somewhat improved on XOS over TECNO's HiOS is DTS Sound. When activated, DTS Sound systematically boosts sound output on the Infinix Hot 9 - whether on the loudspeaker or with a headset. With this, you get a significant boost in sound experience over the TECNO Spark 5. Also, there's a feature that lets you connect two or more Infinix devices to create an immersive, stereo sound experience, maybe during a get-together session or anything you'd like to use it for.
STORAGE AND RAM
To help you keep more of your stuff and enhance performance, both the Infinix Hot 9 and TECNO SPARK 5 comes with the max storage configuration of 128GB ROM and 4GB RAM. One thing here is that we're happy that both devices have improved over their predecessors. If you don't need plenty of storage, the SPARK 5 Pro has another variant with 64GB ROM and 3GB RAM, while the Infinix Hot 9 can go for as low as 32GB of storage with 2GB of RAM.
In any of the variants of both devices you get, you have the chance to expand the storage by inserting a supported microSD card into the dedicated card slot.
BATTERY
Off to the power sector, you get a powerful 5,000mAh battery on both devices. It's kind of amazing how we get beefier batteries on budget/mid-range devices nowadays, and one thing about that is that you get more time to enjoy your device after a single charge. You can watch videos for hours, use the internet, play music, and do all sorts of things and still have done juice left in the battery can at the end of the day. However, none of these devices offers fast charging, you get the standard 10W charger included in their boxes.
CAMERA
TECNO has not ceased to always improve the camera system on its devices - it's either you get a bump in the camera hardware or the software plays a new trick. And in the course of the SPARK 5 Pro, TECNO added a new macro camera lens, to help you take close-up shots. The primary camera also got a bump to 16MP, as opposed to a 13MP primary camera on the SPARK 4. In terms of camera specs, you get a quad-camera setup covering the 16MP primary camera, 2MP macro camera, 2MP depth sensor, and an AI lens.
You get the same camera setup on the Infinix Hot 9, nothing exceptional safe for a triple rear flash on the Infinix Hot 9, instead of a quad rear flash on the SPARK 5 Pro.
Flipping to the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera on both devices. Both the rear and front cameras are capable of shooting 1080p@30fps high-quality videos. In contrast, you get a Slo-Mo Video mode on the TECNO SPARK 5.
