Apps, games, picture editors, video editors, music, and video player are some of the things that make smartphones exciting to use. But if you can’t download apps to your device, the experience can be pesky. There are different causes of this problem, ranging from a poor Internet connection to app-compatible issues, insufficient phone memory, and others. It can also be due to outdated Google Play service. Fortunately, troubleshooting this problem is a walk in the park if you have the right information. Let’s look at common fixes for your TECNO phone being unable to download apps.

How to Fix TECNO Phone can't Download Apps

Methods to Fix TECNO Phone Can’t Download Apps

Consider using one or more of the methods outlined below for addressing the problem of TECNO phones not downloading the apps

1. Internet connection issues

If your Internet connection is poor, you may not be able to download apps on your TECNO phone. Also, if you have exhausted your data or your data limit is exceeded, you can face this issue. But if none of these is the case, try the other fixes below.

2. The app isn't supported

When downloading an app that’s either not compatible with your device model or OS version, then the download will be unsuccessful. If it’s the latter issue about the outdated OS, consider searching for updates in Settings>System>System Update, and update the OS.

4. Device memory is insufficient to download a new app

If your TECNO phone memory is full, you won’t be able to download any new app. You might have to free up some space by deleting other apps or files you don’t use. Alternatively, you can buy an SD card if you haven’t done so already.

5. Some apps require special "permission" to be downloaded

For this kind of app, if such permission is not allowed, you might not be able to download them. Thus, check your phone’s settings and take the required action.

But do so with caution and read the reviews of other users of the particular app to learn more about the software.

6. The play store app is not updated

You won’t be able to download other apps if your Play Store app requires an update. Thus, you’ll need to update your Google Play from its settings. Then, retry the app download.

7. SD card is corrupt

If you chose an SD card as the app download location and the card is corrupt, you won’t be able to download that app. To fix this issue, you will need to format your SD card.

Unfortunately, you will lose all your data and files on the card after formatting the SD card. This is why it’s recommended to back important files on your SD card and phone memory from time to time.

8. Apps not downloading on Android due to a corrupt cache

Are using the stock android browser or the chrome app to download apps on the phone, and you can’t complete the download? 2 things can cause this.

To resolve the problem, you should first clear the Google Play Store’s cache. But if that doesn’t work, you can wipe the Google Play app’s history. A corrupt cache may cause the problem, and you only need to clear the cache to fix it.

Launch the Google Play app. Then, open the app’s menu by tapping the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left of your screen. Select Settings and tap Clear local search history.

9. Fixing bugs in phone's software

Just like all other devices and gadgets, Android smartphones aren’t perfect. So, you could encounter some issues once in a while.

If your phone’s software has bugs, it could prevent you from downloading apps, especially bugs that have to do with WiFi connectivity.

How to Fix TECNO Phone can't Download Apps

Below are a couple of potential solutions to Wi-Fi issues you can try out:

  • Switch off the phone and the router for at least 10secs, then turn them back on and try the connection again
  • Head to Settings -> Battery -> Battery saver and make sure this feature is not on
  • Redo your WiFi connection. Head to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi; long press on the network (connection) name and press “Forget.” Now, input the details again and retry the connection.
  • Ensure that the Wi-Fi router firmware is up-to-date.
  • Open Wi-Fi -> Settings -> Advanced on your phone and take note of your system’s MAC address. Then, ensure access is enabled for it in the router’s MAC filter.

10. Reboot to safe mode

This is another technique for solving phone software issues, especially if third-party apps are the ones causing the problems with the Android OS. If the issue goes away after booting into Safe Mode, that means an app is causing it.

  • If your smartphone is on:
  1. Press & hold the power button
  2. Touch & hold the power off icon.
  3. A pop-up message appears and asks for confirmation to reboot your phone to Safe Mode.
  4. Press “OK.”
  • If your smartphone is off:
  1. Press & hold the power button.
  2. Immediately the animation starts, press & hold the volume down button.
  3. Continue holding it until the animation stops playing, and your device should start in Safe Mode.
  • Exiting safe mode
  1. Press your smartphone’s power button.
  2. Tap on “Restart”, and it should reboot automatically to the normal mode.
  3. You can also press & hold the power button for 30secs until it restarts.
