The incoming call busy problem did not start with the use of Android and iPhones. Long before we started using smartphones, a phone was just made to receive and make calls, send and receive text messages. And even back then, it did happen occasionally that a caller might be unable to reach you because your line always appeared busy – due to your preferences or some settings error.

How To Fix The “Incoming Call Busy” Problem On Android & iPhone

The way we resolved the incoming call busy problem with the ‘un-smart phones’ we used in the past is of course different from the way we now resolve it on our Android and iPhones. Once you have established that you have an issue here, resolving it on your smart device is pretty easy.

Part 1. How do I know I have the incoming call busy issue?

You may never know about your incoming call busy issue until you begin to hear from friends about how they tried to reach you but could not get through. They might ask why your phone is busy when someone calls, or ask the ‘call forwarding’ question – why are your calls always forwarded?

In some cases, you could receive messages of having a missed call from a particular number where the person was not even aware that the call went through.

This is not a good occurrence either for personal or business relationships. Imagine the opportunities you could miss out on simply because you were not reachable. What about those misunderstandings that could result from friends thinking you deliberately blocked their calls or you barred them from calling?

So how do we fix it?

It is quite easy to fix actually. The most common reasons are the flight mode, call barring, call forwarding or call auto-reject.

Method 1. Check Airplane or Flight mode on Android and iPhone

These steps work the same way for iPhone and Android phones

  • Go to your Notification Panel. To get here, you just have to swipe your screen downwards.
  • Look for Flight/Airplane/Aeroplane modeIf it shows blue color, then it is on. Turn it off.
  • Now try calling your phone from another device after this.

Method 2. Turn off call barring

If you have activated a call barring on your phone, you first have to turn it off before this issue can be resolved. On your iPhone;

  • Go to Settingson your device.
  • Click on Calls> check for call barring > Turn it off

Depending on the brand of your phone, you may still need to tap on Additional settings to find call barring.

How to turn off call barring on your android device

  • Tap on the call icon among your apps in the menu.
  • Tap onthe three vertical dots beside the search bar to show you more options > Tap on settings > Tap on calling accounts. All your networks will be listed here.
  • Tap on the networkthat has the incoming call busy problem >Select Call Barring > Ensure that all call barring options are turned off.
  • To be double-sure. Click Deactivate all, enter your sim password and deactivate all call barring.

Method 3. Turn off call forwarding

If the first two options do not fix the problem, the next thing is to check that you have not activated call forwarding. Some people turn it on while in a meeting or busy with their phones, and forget to turn it back off.

  • Go to settings> Click on call settings > Click on call forwarding.
  • Tap on Disable all call forwardingor Turn off all call forwarding. Whichever of the two options your phone displays should suffice.

For some Android phones, your phone might not have call settings under the Settings. In that case, follow the steps below.

  • Tap on the call icon, as if you want to make a call.
  • Tap on the three vertical dots beside your search bar to show you more options> Tap on settings > Tap on calling accounts.
  • If your device uses dual or triple sim, all your networks will be listed. Tap on the networkthat has the incoming call busy problem > Select call forwarding. Ensure that all options are turned off.
  • If the Always forwardoption is on, tap on it and set it to Never forward.

Method 4. Check the Do Not Disturb (DND) settings

You can also check your Do Not Disturb (DND) settings and see that you have not blocked any number from calling you.

For iPhones

  • Go to SettingsDo not Disturb > If it is on, toggle it off.
  • You can set it on a schedule if you do not want to be disturbed at specific times, like at night when you want to sleep, or when you want to vlog.

For Android phones

  • Go to your Settings> Tap Sound & vibration > Navigate to Do Not Disturb.
  • You can choose to turn it offtotally or schedule it to turn on during weekends or weeknights.

Method 5. Check the auto-reject settings

For some Android brands like Samsung and Infinix, you should also check to be sure that auto-reject is not enabled.

  • For Samsung, Go to SettingsCall Settings > tap All calls > Navigate to Auto Reject and disable
  • For Infinix, it is programmed as Reject call. To fix it, Swipe down the notification panel > Tap on the “reject call”icon and turn it off.

Method 6. Check the display over other apps settings

There are other settings on your phone that could cause the incoming call busy notification, when you are busy on your phone, maybe using another application.

  • Go to phone settingsApps & notifications > select the Phone icon
  • Navigate to Display over other apps> Make sure is set to “Allowed”. If it is not, toggle it back on.

With this done, incoming calls can be displayed even when you are busy with another application. If you do not want to do something on your phone, you can turn it off but ensure you turn it back on when you are done. Learn more if you noticed your TECNO phone is not receiving or making calls.
