How to fix “Twitter phone call verification not working” on android

If you are a frequent user of the micro-blogging platform – Twitter – then you might occasionally have a situation where Twitter suspends some features on your account requiring to do phone number verification to reactivate them. When you encounter the Twitter phone call verification not working, you might not get access to your account till you fix it.

This issue usually starts out with a notification from Twitter that your account has been locked or suspended (for whatever reason given), and you need to do a phone verification to regain full access. Now while trying to do the verification as required, you get to the point where you have to get a code from Twitter via phone call. It could be either of two things; you get an error message asking you to try again later, or the system tells you the call has been made but you did not get a call. Both of them mean the same thing – Twitter phone call verification not working.

Why is Twitter requesting verification at all? It could mean that they detected unauthorized access to your account, you logged in from another country’s IP, typed the incorrect password or are trying to log in from an unknown device.

One reason for ‘Twitter verification call failed’ could be that your Android device is preventing the call probably due to a blacklist. Some people with similar problems have confirmed finding the Twitter number in their blacklist even though they don’t remember adding it to the blacklist. Taking the number off the blacklist should address the issue of Twitter phone call verification not working.

Remove Twitter from your blacklist to allow the call come through

There are two ways to do this.

You can contact your service provider via their customer care line, and find out if you had blocked some ads and promotional calls from your mobile line. If this is the case, request them to unblock all such numbers and after 10 minutes, try the phone call verification again. Some users report that the calls came through for them after this.

The second way to fix the Twitter phone call verification not working is to go to your phone settings and check through your list of blacklisted contact. How to locate the blacklist usually differs from one device to the other, but for most android phones, the steps below should get it done.

  • Tap on the caller icon as if you want to make a call.
  • Tap on the three horizontal dots at the right end of the search bar.
  • Select Settings > Tap on Call Blocking
  • This should now show you a list of the numbers you have restricted from calling you on your device. Navigate through the list and search for any number that looks like an international number, or you search for the usual Twitter code number 40404.
  • Tap unblock to remove the number from your blacklist. If you cannot spot out any number that looks like it belongs to Twitter, you could just unblock all the numbers. (you can go back to add numbers to the blacklist after resolving the issue.
  • Now go back to the login page and select the twitter phone number verification call.

Use the 40404 Twitter text option

If after clearing your blacklist, you still have the Twitter phone call verification not working, then you could use an SOS message to reactivate your line. The reason behind this is not clear but it works when it is a case of twitter sms not working as well as when the twitter phone call verification not working.

  • Go to messages on your phone. Select New message and Text Help to 40404. This is usually the number Twitter may have used in the past to send you notifications. You may need to research and find out if Twitter has a different number for your country.
  • After sending the text, you will receive a text from Twitter stating that your phone number has been activated or something similar.
  • Now go back to the login page and select the twitter phone number verification call.

File a ticket with Twitter support

If you are stuck in that situation where you cannot get past the phone call verification stage, and you are also not logged in on another device to change the settings, your last option would be to submit a ticket to Twitter with your username so that Twitter resolves the issue directly.

To do this, go to Twitter Help Center > Select the relevant issue (Twitter phone call verification not working) > explain the issue and send a support request. You can keep a screenshot of your explanation. Ensure that you have access to the registered email, in case Twitter decides to use that option.

Some people report that Twitter hardly responds to these tickets so you can try filing multiple tickets, and send follow-up mails from your registered email address. This has worked for quite a number of Tweeters as well.

Bypass Twitter Phone Verification

If you can’t verify Twitter phone number because you have changed your registered phone line, then the next thing to do is to bypass Twitter phone verification stage and getting access through another means. For you to do the Twitter phone number verification bypass, you should be logged in on another device. It could be another Android phone, mobile browser, laptop or desktop computer. Once you get access to the device, disable twitter phone verification from the settings.

  • Click on your image (on your phone) to go to your Account settings
  • Click on Settings and Privacy > select Account > choose Security
  • If you are carrying out these steps on a desktop device, you will see an option to turn off login verification. This will make sure that Twitter will not confirm your additional information like phone number while logging in from any device.
  • Turn off Password reset protection. This will ensure that you do not have to verify your number while changing your password.
  • Once you have done this, go back to the device you were trying to log in from and login again

If you have been able to do this and have gained full access to your account, then you should update your phone number in your Twitter profile as soon as possible. Also keep this in mind so that if you change your mobile number at any time, you can also go back to your Twitter profile and update it.
