WhatsApp is the most used Instant Messaging app on this planet. And while it’s based on connecting people worldwide via texting and calling, there are a lot more you can do on WhatsApp. One of those cool things is learning how to change WhatsApp status.

For the unknown, WhatsApp Status allows you to share written texts, pictures, videos, or GIFS images with your contacts. Anything you share on your Status disappears after 24hours or whenever you choose to delete it manually.

If you’ve just registered your WhatsApp number or you’ve not been posting on your WhatsApp Status, this post will guide you on everything you need to know on how to change WhatsApp Status.

What is the use of WhatsApp Status?

Do you really need WhatsApp Status? Yes, you do. Just like Instagram Stories, Twitter Fleets, and Snapchat Stories, WhatsApp Status allows you to share what’s on your mind with your contacts. You can share videos, images, and Gif animations on your WhatsApp Status.

People use WhatsApp Status for various things. You can use it to advertise your business to everyone on your WhatsApp contact list. You can post various things for your friends to see. And, like many influencers, your WhatsApp Status might be an avenue where people gather to draw knowledge. So, what you use your WhatsApp Status for depends on you.

How to post a photo or video to your WhatsApp Status

Photos and videos are the most things people post on WhatsApp. Ranging from photos/pictures of yourself to pictures of relatives or media files to promote your business online—you can post anything on your WhatsApp Status.

Meanwhile, you can only post up to a 30 seconds video at a time. If the video is too long, WhatsApp will allow you to cut out and post a part of it. However, you can split your videos manually and post them on multiple slides.

At the same time, there are various ways to post a picture or video on your WhatsApp status. You can use the WhatsApp camera, select a photo/video in your gallery, or share it directly from another app. Here’s how to change WhatsApp Status

How to change WhatsApp Status photo or video:

  • Launch WhatsApp
  • Click on the STATUS
  • Tap the Camera button in the bottom right corner. Doing so will open the WhatsApp camera.
  • You can tap the shutter button at the center to take a picture, or long-press it to take a video.
  • Alternatively, you may want to post an existing photo/video from your galley. If that’s it, you’ll see a preview of recent photos/videos in your gallery above the shutter button.
  • Swipe up on the screen to show your gallery.
  • Select a photo or video you want to post. You can also long-press to select multiple photos/videos.
  • Next, you may add a caption, then tap the Send button next to the caption.

Note: if you've selected multiple photos or videos, you'll need to add a caption to them one after the other before posting. Just swipe to the left or right to preview the slides before sending them.

Likewise that, you can forward any link or text from your WhatsApp messages or anywhere to post it on your Status.

Being watchful while composing or changing your WhatsApp Status doesn’t guarantee you won’t make mistakes. When such a thing happens, you can always delete your WhatsApp status.

You may also change your mind after a while. Or, maybe the status is no longer relevant before the 24 hours, you can always delete your WhatsApp Status. Here's how:

  • Launch WhatsApp and navigate to the STATUS
  • Tap on My Status and find the slide you want to delete.
  • Click on the eye icon below the screen.

How do I change WhatsApp Status Privacy?

By default, everyone on your contact list would see your WhatsApp Statuses when you post them. However, you can restrict some people from receiving your status if you wish.

Here’s how to change who receives/sees your WhatsApp Status:

  • As always before, open
  • Tap the STATUS
  • From there, tap the 3-dot button at the top-right corner.
  • Select Status privacy to change who sees your next WhatsApp status:
  • You’ll see three options there, and here’s what they mean:
    • My contacts: shares your status with everyone on your contacts list.
    • My contacts except: allow you to hide your contacts from selected contacts.
    • Only share with: allows you to share your status with selected contacts only.

Note: changing your status privacy doesn’t affect old statuses. The change only applies to the statuses you post next. And, you can always change your status privacy anytime you wish.

Bonus: How to hide view status on WhatsApp

Hmm… if you want to view people’s status without informing them, there’s an option to do so. All you need is to turn off “Read receipts” in the WhatsApp privacy settings. However, there’s a catch to it as well.

By turning off “Read receipts” on WhatsApp, you won’t see how many people viewed your status and others won’t know if you viewed their status as well. Additionally, you won’t be able to know if someone has read your message on not.

If you’re cool with that, here’s how to see WhatsApp Status without seen:

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Tap the 3-dot button at the top right corner.
  • Tap on
  • Click on Account
  • Select Privacy
  • Turn of Reading receipts.

Also, if you’re looking for how to change WhatsApp status to offline, you can turn off Read receipts in the WhatsApp privacy settings.

Viola! That’s all you need to know about changing or adding to your WhatsApp status. Remember, anything you post disappears in the next 24 hours. Also, you can always delete your WhatsApp Status anytime you want. This will remove the status for everyone who sees it.
