With the GPS on your phone, you can also share your location with friends and colleagues, track the location of a lost/stolen phone, and keep track of your run. But there are times the option may stop working. In this guide, we explain different ways to fix GPS not working on mobile phone.

Part 1. How to Fix GPS not Working on your Phone

1. Disable Battery Saver

Battery Saver is a power optimization feature that helps prolong your phone's battery life by restricting the usage or performance of some apps and functionalities of the device. When enabled, your phone's GPS may be one of the systems whose performance is restricted by Battery Saver.

This means you can simply fix the issue by turning the option off. Here are the steps required to disable Battery Saver:

  • Swipe down the Home screen to reveal the Quick Settings menu
  • Tap on the Settings icon
  • Press Battery> Battery Saver
  • Tap on it to disable the feature

2. Switch Google location accuracy on

Google can determine location accurately by integrating WiFi with mobile data, Bluetooth, and GPS. When the location feature isn't working on your smartphone, consider switching on Google Location. You can do so as follows:

  • Open the Quick Settings feature by swiping down the Home screen
  • Tap and hold the Location icon for a couple of seconds to open its settings
  • Press Google Location Accuracy and turn the service on

3. Enter Safe Mode to check for bugs

You can enable Safe Mode on your phone in the way below.

  • Turn off the smartphone
  • Press and hold the Power/Lock button
  • Wait for about five seconds for the phone to boot and show the Infinix logo
  • When it displays the logo, press the Volume Down key
  • You'll see the Safe Mode watermark on the screen; then, release the button
  • Your device is now in Safe Mode

Safe Mode will help you check for bugs on your device and fix them. The next thing is to exit Safe Mode:

4. Restart the phone

  • Press & hold the Lock or Power button for a short time until you see two options
  • Swipe Up to Restart
  • If a restart option doesn't appear, keep on holding down the Power button for about 30 seconds
  • The phone will now restart

5. Update your Google Maps

When Google Maps is out-of-date, GPS may not also work. That means you need to get the latest version of the app:

  • Launch Google Play
  • Tap the three horizontal lines at the upper left of your screen
  • Press My apps & games
  • Under Updates, scroll down to find Google Maps app
  • Tap Update

6. Clear cache of Google Maps app

The cached files on your Google Maps are the data of places you visited, locations you shared with friends, and other information your phone stores for future use. With such stored data, the app will work faster as the software can access the information easier.

But when too much of this kind of data is saved on your phone, the device can experience issues such as GPS malfunctioning. When that happens, you need to clear the cache on Google Maps (or Maps) app. Here are the steps to perform the procedure:

  • Swipe down the Home screen to access the Quick Settings panel
  • Tap the Settings icon > Apps & notifications
  • Scroll down to locate Maps> Storage
  • Press Clear Cache

7. Check network coverage

You need an active Internet connection to obtain location data on mobile apps requiring the Internet, such as Google Maps. But if you have a poor network connection or are in an area with weak network coverage, or there's a signal outage, your Infinix GPS won't work. The way out is either to restart the network connection or to change your location.

You can reconnect your phone's Internet by swiping down the Home screen to access the Quick Settings panel. Then, turn off the Internet and turn it on again.

8. Update the Phone's OS

Another possible cause of phone GPS not working is an out-of-date OS. To update the firmware, launch Settings>About phone>Check for Updates>Install.

During the installation, your handset will go off automatically and restart when the OS update is complete.

9. Turn off and turn on GPS

You can also fix GPS issues by switching on the feature and turning it off again. Invoke the Quick Settings panel by swiping down the Home screen. Then, tap the Location icon to turn GPS off, and tap it again to turn it on.
